ABOUT TEACHERS RUGBY LEAGUE
TRL started as a chance conversation between 3 PE teachers at a Rugby League festival in St Helens. The initial aim of TRL was to take part in one friendly against the British Asian Rugby Association but due to the unprecedented success and exponential popularity of that game, the concept has grown since then, with the team entering the 2011 Steeden Cup and forming a women’s team in 2012 and now competing in the RFL Associations Cup each year.
Since our creation, we have played matches against teams such as the Great British Police, Great Britain Combined Armed Forces, The RAF and England Universities, as well as successfully touring two 'Emerging Nations' countries.
The aim now for GB TRL is to develop and improve the quality of representative rugby and eventually to spread the game to new and developing nations. We have undertaken two international tours, the first in 2016, with the men's team travelling to Poland to play the National side. In 2018 we continued to spread the Rugby League brand when we travelled to Spain to play them in a two-game test in Valencia.
